Oak Grove
Parent Letter November 2009

Dear Parents,
The end of October is the start of the busy holiday season. I want to thank everyone for making this a great first quarter of school.

  • Parent Teacher Conferences went great. Many teachers reported having perfect attendance from their parents. Parents' involvement in their child's education is a huge factor on how successful that student will be at school.
  • November can be the start of winter storms. Anytime school is cancelled, it is announced on all the local radio and television stations. If school is cancelled, the Latchkey program will be cancelled as well. If school is cancelled during the school day, the Latchkey program will run its normal hours unless all children are picked up beforehand. A storm may move in and school will be cancelled later in the morning or during school hours. Please discuss with your child what they are to do if school is dismissed during the school day for weather. With the limited number of telephone lines, it is impossible to make arrangements for all children once the decision to dismiss school has been made.
  • The PTO reported that we made over $14,000 during the fundraiser. PTO supports Oak Grove by purchasing classroom supplies, helping with field trips, providing a yearbook for each child, sponsoring Play Day, and helping with other miscellaneous needs within the building. The Book Fair was also very successful, which will help with the purchase of needed books.
  • The month of November brings Thanksgiving Holiday break. We encourage the students to remember that this is the special time of year to be thankful for all that we have. Veterans Day will be celebrated here at school in remembrance of those who serve our country and protect the things that we should be most thankful for. November 3rd is Election Day; exercise your right to vote.
  • I have received concerns from the property owners on the county road that we line up on for parent pick up. Their concerns range from throwing cigarettes in their yard to driving through their flower beds and knocking over trash cans. Please be respectful while waiting in the line. This process is necessary for safety, but we do cause a daily inconvenience for those home owners.
