New Attendance Policy
Attendance Policy
An addition to this year’s Elementary Student Handbook (page six and seven) was a discussion of the Board of Education policy concerning attendance. The district has placed more “teeth” into its stance concerning student attendance. Students who miss more than seven days, unverified in a semester, will be given homework but grades will not be given. Students will not receive credit for those missed grades.
The policy also required all verifications for days missed be turned into the office not later than the second day that the student returns to school. Absences will not be verified after the two-day time limit has expired.
The new policy is the student will be required to attend summer school or possibly be retained for excessive absences. Guidelines are as follows:
Verified or unverified absences of 15 – 19 days per year requires two weeks of summer school.
Verified or unverified absences of 20 –24 days per year requires full summer school.
Verified or unverified absences of 25 days per year requires full summer school with probable retention in current grade.
If a student is required to attend summer school, they will not be promoted at the end of the school year. After they have attended the required amount of summer school, their situation will be evaluated. If they have attended the required amount of summer school, they will be promoted. A meeting will be held to discuss those students missing over twenty-five days.
We really hope this policy will apply to our students. If you have any questions please contact the school at (573)785-4047.
