Parent Letter December 2008
Dear Parents,
Happy Holidays!
Can you believe there are only two more weeks until the end of the 1st semester? This is a happy time of the year with a lot of celebrations. The students will celebrate with a Christmas party in their rooms on the 19th. The room mothers are working hard preparing things and making sure there are enough treats for all the kids.
Weather
This can also be a time of bad weather. When inclimate weather strikes school closings will be announced on the radio and the television. It is important to discuss with your child what they are to do if school should ever close in the middle of the day.
PTO Music program
3rd Grade will present a program at the PTO meeting on December 9th at 6:30 p.m. We will also recognize all Students of the Month for August through November. We hope to see you there.
Christmas for our Supporting Staff
We have a pretty terrific support staff here at Oak Grove. These are the people that make it possible for the teachers to actually teach. Without these people our school could not run. I am talking about our nurse, the kitchen staff, custodians, the secretary, and all the teacher and student aides. We have around 20 staff members that are not regular classroom teachers, but are dedicated to helping our students. At Christmas time students generally bring in some money that will be used to buy these important people a well deserved present to show how much they are appreciated. If you are able to help, please send the money in an envelope marked Support Staff by Dec. 15th. Thank you for your help.
Other News
School Menus are now available on the web site. Friday Dec. 5th the fire department will be here to encourage the students to do a home fire safety drill. Prizes will be given to classrooms and individual students who complete the drill, and return the plan on Monday. Mrs. Pennington would like to say thank you to the PTO, and the parents who participated in the book fair. We were able to get $1,800 in new books for the library.
