Earlier this month retiring communication arts teacher Kay Campbell of Poplar Bluff High School received statewide recognition from the Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution for a career promoting literacy in Southeast Missouri.

Lake Road recognized at state institute
During the eighth annual Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support Summer Training Institute on Wednesday, June 12, at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Lake Road Elementary School earned the bronze award for successful adoption and implementation of the intervention system.

PBJHS visits U.S. Capitol
Poplar Bluff R-I students toured almost every memorial and monument in the Washington, D.C., metro area from May 28-June 1 during the annual eighth grade class trip.

Laptops are delivered, secured
An “unbox party” was held on Tuesday, June 4, for Poplar Bluff R-I staff to open a shipment of over 1,100 MacBook Airs to be imaged and then distributed to Junior High students as part of the school district’s digital transformation.

Rotary Club donates defibrillators to school
On Wednesday, May 22, the Rotary Club donated to Poplar Bluff Schools two new automated external defibrillators valued at a total of $3,000 for placement at Lake Road Elementary and the Kindergarten Center.

Sixth graders leave their mark on school
A total of 350 upperclassmen of Deana Ward’s art class at the 5th & 6th Grade Center recently created a ceramic tile mural on the exterior of the school building representing “synergy,” the sixth habit under The Leader in Me initiative, which was employed there this past school year.

Honor Choir opens for Cardinals
The Poplar Bluff 5th & 6th Grade Center Honor Choir—under the director of music teacher Kristy Weaver—sang “God Bless America” prior to the St. Louis Cardinals game on Thursday, May 16, at Busch Stadium, which has become an annual tradition for students.

Junior Beta Club supports depot steps restoration
On Wednesday, May 15, the Poplar Bluff Junior Beta Club donated $730 to the Poplar Bluff Historic Depot Restoration Corporation to go toward the grand staircase restoration.

Apple hosted an all-day workshop for Poplar Bluff R-I administrators and school technology leaders on Thursday, June 13, in the Administrative Building to help make sure the digital transformation is a success.

Music teacher to throw pitch at Cardinals game
Poplar Bluff 5th & 6th Grade Center music teacher Kristy Weaver has been selected by the Missouri Lottery as a “Stars of the Classroom” winner, and will throw the ceremonial pitch during the St. Louis Cardinals game on Saturday, July 6, at Busch Stadium.
